Patio Doors

Repairing Sliding Patio Doors Is Our Specialty

You can probably tell by our company name that we specialize in repairing sliding doors. The majority of our repairs involve glass patio doors. It’s not hard to understand why patio doors in disrepair can shoot to the top of one’s to-do list, but it is remarkable how long it takes some to cross it off their list as ‘completed’. In fact, many of our initial inspections include stories of how long a customer has lived with a broken or non-functioning patio door to the point of acceptance that the condition is a part of daily life. It never gets old to witness the joy and elation that follows the moment a newly repaired patio door glides freely along a resurfaced track on new sets of rollers – with just the slightest effort.

Happiness Is On Sale

Sometimes adding to the stress of a broken patio door is the realization that it needs to be fixed or replaced. That means it’s going to cost some money. We are often met by residents who are resigned to the idea that a costly replacement is the only option to remedy the situation. We advocate repair over replace whenever possible. They become our biggest fans in 45 minutes. Would it be a stretch to say that we sell happiness and relief? That’s your call.

Common Repair Issues

  • Worn Rollers

  • Damaged Track

  • Skewed Door Frames

  • Building Settling

  • Broken Locks & Handles

  • Roller Adjustments

So what are some of the most common situations we encounter with sliding glass patio doors that have lost their ‘slide’? Without a doubt, the usual suspects are worn or broken rollers, followed closely by the damaged track they (are supposed to) roll on. Remember, sliding glass doors don’t actually slide – they roll. Other common factors that create issues for sliding doors are: door frames that are out of square, settling of the building has decreased the opening and clearance required for the door to operate, broken locks and handles, doors panels that are out of square, rollers need adjusting, worn & damaged tracks, cracked or broken glass, and failed glass units, among others. While it’s true that there are some unique situations out there, the majority of the issues we deal with are fairly common.

Pet Doors

Some pet owners have found different solutions that allow their pets to enter and exit the house freely through the patio door. A popular method is to use a full-height panel that is fixed to one side of the patio door’s opening. The patio door can remain closed and pets use the ‘doggie door’ in the panel. These units will fail over time but most are damaged from, um… sight-challenged pets, often damaging the patio door as well, in the process.
